P a r t two i s a b r i e f p r e s e n t a t i o n of a pin p i l e a p p l i c a t i o n , used i n 1979, in the u n d e r p i n n i n g of the Queen C h a r l o t t e Armouries B u i l d i n g in C h a r l o t t e t o w n , P r i n c e Edward I s l a n d . I t i s assumed t h a t the r e a d e r has had some exposure, whether p r a c t i c a l or t h e o r e t i c a l , t o u n d e r p i n n i n g techniques and s o i l mechanics. T h e r e f o r e , o n l y t e c h n i c a l d a t a on p i n p i l i n g and t h e i r u s e s has been documented. The r e l e v a n t i n f o r m a t i o n for t h i s s t u d y came from the open l i t e r a t u r e , and data provided by a g e o t e c h n i c a l c o n s u l t a nt company i n d e s i g n i n g and t e s t i n g of p i n p i l i n g. Though there a r e many economical and p r a c t i c a l methods of u n d e r p i n n i n g , the pin p i l e has been perhaps the most u n i q u e and v e r s a t i l e s o l u t i o n to t h i s c o n s t r u c t i o n problem. Although a r e l a t i v e l y old c o n c e p t , t h i s method i s new to the North American c o n s t r u c t i o n i n d u s t r y , when compared to E u r o p e . However, because of i t ' s r o o t s i n o l d r u l e s - o f - t h u m b and ever i n c r e a s i n g modern t h e o r e t i c a l knowledge, i t promises to be a very c o m p e t i t i ve o p t i o n as an u n d e r p i n n i n g s o l u t i o n.
