The feasibility of irrigating potatoes in New Brunswick
(University of New Brunswick, 1989) Gordon, Melanie R.; Bray, Dale; D., Bray
A computer procedure was developed to evaluate the cost of irrigating potatoes in New Brunswick. The program requires information concerning plot size and slope, soil texture and water source relative position to determine irrigation pipes and pump sizes and the capital cost of the irrigation system needed for any particular plot of potatoes. A manual is provided to assist those who wish to make use of the COSTIRR computer procedure. A model developed by Agriculture Canada (IRRIGATE) was applied to an area near Grand Falls, New Brunswick for the period Nay - September for the years 1982, 1983 and 1986 to evaluate the main design assumptions adopted in the program COSTIRR. The IRRIGATE program was also used to study the sensitivity of several of the parameters that determine the soil moisture conditions.
