A review of the technology of whole tree harvesting
(University of New Brunswick, 1980) Wood, Edward Norman; Robak, Ted; W., Robak
The forest Industry in eastern Canada is trying various methods to increase utilization of the forest biomass in harvesting operations. A concept that shows great promise in this area, is the utilization of stump wood. This report examines the basic concepts and current technology used in the harvesting of stumps and roots. The extra costs involved in harvesting this extra wood are often offset by the increase in useable wood that is recover ed. There is also a reduction in the silvicultural costs after harvesting due to the absence of stumps.
