A cost analysis of highway paving in New Brunswick

Abstract

The cost of paving highways v a r i e s througout New Brunswick. This report determines i f the p r i c e variance i s s i g n i f i c a n t l y large through s t a t i s t i c a l means. The report then focuses on explaining t h i s variance s i z e . This i s accomplished through the a n a l y s i s of four f a c t o r s . These factors are; the a v a i l a b l e resources i n the area, the competition, the s i z e of the job and the season of work. Trends for these factors have been i d e n t i f i e d and represented g r a p h i c a l l y. The factors are then ranked in importance in explaining the variance of the paving p r i c e s . The amount explained by these f a c t o r s i s a l s o found through s t a t i s t i c a l means and expressed i n percentage terms.
