Surface treatments on Prince Edward Island: an implementation study
Coles, B. C. (1990). Surface treatments on Prince Edward Island: an implementation study.
Abstract
The initial investment required for construction equipment and labratory instruments to initiate a single crew chip seal program is $275,525 00. This is a base price estimate; it does not include tax or the handling charges. A chip seal will only be as good as the base to which it is applied. When a highway or road is determined suitable for a chip seal treatment stringent guidelines and specifications for the construction procedure are required for a quality chip seal application. It is recommended that the rates of application for a treatment be calculated by the McLeod mix-design formulas. To improve the public's perception of chip seal applications the name 'chip seal' should be changed to: bituminous seal, surface treatment, seal coat, or friction coat.
