An evaluation of bonding agents used in concrete bridge reconstruction

Abstract

This senior report evaluates the effect of bonding agents used to bond together the fresh concrete layer to the repaired concrete surface . The bonding Agent evaluated in this report is Sicadur 32 HI-MOD a two part epoxy structural adhesive.lt was evaluated using the ASTM C-2 34 1986 for comparing bond development of concretes, varying only the bonding conditions instead of concrete type. The results of the testing show a marginal increase in bond development with an epoxy bonding agent used for immediate pour ,and when recoated after a 24hr hardening time. Form the results of this report it can be concluded that Bonding agents marginally increase bond development if used under proper conditions , but will decrease the bond development, if applied improperly.
