Glacial till clast dispersal patterns for the Hayesville map area [NTS J/10]

Abstract

The Hayesville map area (NTS 21 J/10) is located approximately 70km north of Fredericton in central New Brunswick. It lies entirely within the Miramichi Highlands component of the New Brunswick Highlands subdivision. Glacial till clasts were collected and analyzed from this region to examine Wisconsinan ice flow in the Hayesville area. The direction and extent of glacially deposited till clasts were determined using plots of dispersal patterns and distributions. The strongest ice flow direction recognized was almost directly eastward. It was accompanied by a southeastward dispersal and northward trending dispersal pattern. The northward flow occurred following the eastward and southeastward ice flow movements. Clasts were locally derived and transported less than five kilometres. The findings of this study coincide with data from nearby map areas and the greater regional trends established previously
