At the epicenter of these stories is an unnamed rural town on the east coast of Canada. This Maritime element of the collection is employed to explore themes of region, religion, and the natural environment. Characters struggle to reconcile ideas of home and wholeness, faith in the face of a brutal landscape, and the dualistic nature of humankind.
