Insulation, ventilation, and the addition of a second layer of plastic were tested to determine the usefulness of each. Results show that cut and split firewood undergoes significant weight loss during the winter period from November to February. It is- suggested that the kiln be equipped with an outer layer of tarpaper for waterproofing, ventilation, and a double layer of plastic on the window for optimum drying times. Insulation was deemed unnecessary as was a heat storage system.
