Hickey, Patrick M.2023-10-112023-10-112022-12Thesis 11152https://unbscholar.lib.unb.ca/handle/1882/37474Compared to the general population, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community face greater barriers to healthcare, unmet health needs as well as lower life satisfaction and higher psychological distress. The current research examined healthcare access and psychological wellness in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Canada and the United States. In total, 534 participants completed an online questionnaire package to assess healthcare access, unmet health needs, and psychological wellness. Results demonstrated the continued disparity between 2SLGBTQIA+ and non-2SLGBTQIA+ populations in healthcare access and psychological wellness. Compared to cis-gender sexual minorities, individuals who identified as both a gender and sexual minority reported more problems on aspects of healthcare access and psychological wellness. 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals from Canada and the United States reported healthcare access differences, with affordability of care a greater barrier for US residents. Overall, these results support previous research and highlight the need for continued focus on services for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.x, 145electronicenhttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS::Health and medical services in societyINTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS::Gender studiesSOCIAL SCIENCES::Social sciences::PsychologyMedical care, Cost of--Canada.Medical care, Cost of--United States.Sexual minorities--Medical care--Canada--Regional disparities.Sexual minorities--Medical care--United States--Regional disparities.Gender-nonconforming people--Medical care--Canada--Regional disparities.Gender-nonconforming people--Medical care--United States--Regional disparities.Canada.United States.Association between healthcare access and psychological wellness: An examination of individuals in the 2SLGBTQIA+ communitymaster thesisBest, Lisa(OCoLC)1419468356Psychology
