Jacobsen, Rob2023-03-012023-03-012012Thesis 9013https://unbscholar.lib.unb.ca/handle/1882/14554The Philosopher-King is an anti-utopian novel detailing the collapse of humanity and rise of an authoritarian city-state called New Schola. The bulk of the novel focuses on the life and philosophy of Porter Davies, a charismatic cult leader and outlaw in New Schola, who attempts to ignite a class war via a series of gruesome murders, not unlike Charles Manson. The Philosopher-King explores the relationship between cults and utopian literature in an effort to destabilize pro-utopian discourses and ultimately undermine the futile belief that any sole ideology is the key to a utopian future.text/xmliii, 305 pageselectronicen-CAhttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Dystopias.Fiction.The philosopher-kingmaster thesis2020-08-05Jarman, Mark(OCoLC)1334381420English
