Abstract

The main goal of this report is to summarize the primary concerns which a prospective owner or builder would have about earth-sheltered housing. The following concerns are discussed: construction materials, structural considerations, construction methods, interior environment, energy saving alternatives, and a cost analysis. To reduce the scope of this report a sample house size was developed. This house was designed to meet the basic requirements of the occupants and to be economical to construct. In conclusion, I believe that with more research earth sheltered housing can be a viable form of housing in New Brunswick.
