Pangolins, found across Africa and Asia, play a vital ecological role in insect population control but face severe threats from poaching, habitat loss, and illegal wildlife trade. This report focuses on the global distribution of pangolins, particularly highlighting the three species in Ghana and their geographic ranges. It critically examines the IUCN's conservation data, pointing out the lack of precise population estimates and habitat fragmentation details, which hinder effective conservation strategies. Despite listing major threats such as hunting and illegal trade, the IUCN assessment lacks updated data on climate change impacts and enforcement measures. The report emphasizes the urgent need for comprehensive population surveys in Ghana using modern tools like camera traps and genetic analysis. It also calls for stronger law enforcement, better trade monitoring, and heightened public awareness. Expanding protected areas and promoting community-based conservation are recommended to ensure the long-term survival of pangolins in their natural habitats.
