Abstract
A coda-length (signal duration) magnitude scale was determined for the 1985 Miramichi microearthquake study from a regression of Nuttli magnitudes and logarithms of the signal duration, where both variables were treated as dependents. The Nuttli magnitudes were calculated at the regional station KLN and durations measured using a 0.5mm end point threshold.
An overall formula was determined from average coda magnitudes and average signal durations for
with Mc>O.O, and is given by;
Mc= 3.66 log(¯D) -4.88
Hypocenters calculated using BASIC-HYPO for the events with Mc>O .O were compared to values using
FASTHYPO in order to determine the precision and speed of a microcomputer.
