Abstract
A s k i area development f o r Mount Douglas at Welsford, New
Brunswick i s proposed i n t h i s r e p o r t . A market a n a l y s i s shows
a s k i e r market of over 14,000 s k i e r s and a f o r e c a s t t o t a l of
over 120,000 s k i e r v i s i t s . A m e t e o r o l o g i c a l a n a l y s i s l e d t o a
103 day design season l e n g t h and a r e q u i r e d design day
c a p a c i t y of 2800 s k i e r s . A 200 meter and a 220 meter peak
were chosen f o r development. A balanced design l e d t o t h e
the s e l e c t i o n of two Quadruple c h a i r l i f t s , one s e r v i n g each
peak and s k i runs ranging i n grade from 10 percent t o over 7 0
p e r c e n t . The t o t a l l i f t c a p a c i t y i s over 4000 s k i e r s per hour
or 1,008,000 v e r t i c a l t r a n s p o r t meters per hour. The design
i n c o r p o r a t e s the Super-run concept i n t h e l a y o u t of s k i r u n s.
The t o t a l estimated cost of t h e development i s approximately
f i v e m i l l i o n d o l l a r s.
