Abstract

As a result of foreseeable timber shortabes the privince of Newfoundland, in an attempt to better understand reforestation techniques, has established a series of planting stock comparison trials. One of these trials has been established on the exploits burn in central Newfoundland where bareroot, paperpot, multipot, and spencer-lemaire black spruce (Picea mariana) seedlings were planted in the spring of 1981. Four year field results have indicated good overall survival on all stock types and relatively good growth with the bareroot and paperpot stock.
