Abstract
The D e p a r t m e n t o f E d u c a t i o n p l a n s t o i n c l u d e g r a d e 9 s t u d e n ts
i n t h e h i g h s c h o o l system w i t h i n t h e n e x t two t o t h r e e y e a r s . This
has r a i s e d , once a g a i n , the i s s u e of a second h i g h s c h o o l i n
F r e d e r i c t o n . This r e p o r t w i l l show t h a t F r e d e r i c t o n w o u l d be
b e t t e r s e r v e d w i t h two s c h o o l s by showing d e s i r a b l e e d u c a t i o n al
outcomes i n s u c h a r e a s as c l a s s s i z e , p a r t i c i p a t i o n l e v e l s , a l c o h ol
and d r u g abuse, as w e l l as i m p r o v e d s t u d e n t d r o p o u t r a t e s f o r t he
c i t y .
T h i s r e p o r t w i l l show t h a t t h e N o r t h s i d e would be an i d e al
p l a c e t o l o c a t e a new s c h o o l , as w e l l as p r e s e n t t h e b e n e f i t s o f
c o n s t r u c t i n g a new s c h o o l compared t o c o n v e r t i n g N a s h w a a k s i s J u n i or
H i g h i n t o a second h i g h s c h o o l , which School D i s t r i c t 18 has
p r o p o s e d.
