Abstract
I n c r e a s i n g h o u s i n g d e v e l o p m e n t s and d e c r e a s i n g a v a i l a b i l i ty
o f s u i t a b l e land i s f o r c i n g d e v e l o p e r s t o l o o k a t b u i l d i n g on
l a n d s n o t n o r m a l l y s u i t e d f o r c o n s t r u c t i o n . L a n d f i l l s i s one
example. But b e f o r e such c o n s t r u c t i o n t a k e s p l a c e t he
g e o t e c h n i c a l p r o p e r t i e s of t h e l a n d f i l l must be d e t e r m i n e d.
The r e s e a r c h e r i n v e s t i g a t e d the g e o t e c h n i c a l p r o p e r t i e s of
l a n d f i l l c o n s t i t u e n t s . Shear s t r e n g t h , t e n s i l e s t r e n g t h and
c o m p r e s s i b i l i t y t e s t s were c o n d u c t e d a l o n g w i t h t e s t s to
d e t e r m i n e the i n d e x p r o p e r t i e s of l a n d f i l l c o n s t i t u e n t s . The
r e s u l t s of t h e s e t e s t s are c o n t a i n e d w i t h i n t h i s r e p o r t.
