Abstract
The American Concrete Institute's formwork design procedure, which is currently the most popular design process in Atlantic Canada, is long, tedious and susceptible to error. A user-friendly computer program was written on a Lotus 123 spreadsheet to model this design procedure. The program accepts various design criteria and generates the most appropriate formwork system. The speed of computation allows a quick sensitivity analysis between alternate formwork systems by changing individual design variables. Thus enabling the engineer to optimize the concrete formwork.
