Item The optimization of a liquid argon calorimeter with accordion geometry(University of New Brunswick, 1994) 0'Neil, Dugan; DeMille, George; Lefebvre, MichelFuture hadron colliders, like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) planned at CERN, Geneva, will allow physicists to explore the laws of nature down to the Te V / c2 mass scale. Because of the small rate of production of the events of interest, the LHC will operate at a high collision rate. This puts serious demands on detector performance. One of the most important components of the planned detectors at LHC is the calorimetry, which measures the energy of impinging particles. This project focusses on the study of liquid argon calorimetry for the proposed ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Computer simulations have been used to optimize the geometry of a liquid argon calorimeter with accordion' geometry
