Item Source of Sulphur in cupriferrous iron sulphides in ophiolites(University of New Brunswick, 1974) Bostwick, Terrance R.; Bachinski, D.A cupriferous pyrite deposit in an ophiolite suite in Little Bay, Newfoundland exhibits δS-34(py) values of mean 12.43% and spread between 9.93% and 13.0%. This value lies almost midway between the zero permil value, traditionally indicative of mantle sulphur, and 26. 9%, the δS S-34 value for sea water sulphate of Ordovician age . Considerations of ph, f0 2 and silicate and sulphides assemblages, delineates a physico-chemical environment of deposition, which when compared with δS-34(py)contours, suggests that the mantle is not the source of sulphur in the deposit. Sea water sulphate as a sulphur source seems favourable.
