Item The anaerobic membrane bioreactor process (AnMBR) for treatment of food processing wastewaters(University of New Brunswick, 2012) Burke, Daryl Francis; Singh, KripaA research facility was setup at a potato processing plant in Atlantic Canada to study the anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) process for industrial wastewater treatment. A large scale (1300 L - 3300 L) AnMBR pilot was operated over a period of two years treating different strengths of real-time potato processing wastewater from the production plant. Two additional 25 L pilots were operated during this time treating high-strength cheese whey wastewater from a local dairy. The pilot systems operated over this period at both mesophilic and thermophilic conditions. Laboratory testing was conducted throughout the study to determine the performance of the system in terms of COD and suspended solids removal, membrane performance, process stability, and methane production. This study was conducted in collaboration with the University of New Brunswick and a local industrial partner, ADI Systems Inc. The objective was to demonstrate the suitability for use in full-scale industrial wastewater treatment applications.
