Development of a Coda Magnitude Scale from a microearthquake survey in Central New Brunswick
(University of New Brunswick, 1986) Carr, Malcolm J.
Seismological recordings of the 1985 Miramichi Microearthquake Experiment were analyzed to develop a codalength (signal duration) magnitude scale from a regression of Richter and Nuttli magnitudes and the logarithms of the duration for events. The formula is based on the mean signal duration, in seconds, as measured from 15 local microeathquakes and is given by: mc=3.741(±0.444) log - 4 . 88(±0.684) The durations were measured using a minimum amplitude (0.5mm) criterion for the end point. The local magnitudes were determined at the KLN regional seismogragh station.
