Item Shear strength of concrete masonry joints(University of New Brunswick, 1988) Davies, Stephen L.; J. Dawe; J., DawePresented within are the results of a study that investigated the shear strength of seven unique reinforced concrete masonry joints which were compressed perpendicular to the shearing load. Normal, nonreinforced joints had 0.7 units of shear strength for each unit increase in precompression; i.e. the coefficient of friction at the mortar block interface. Joint reinforced? grouted one cell, and grouted one cell plus joint reinforcement samples had the coefficient of friction equal to 0.64, 0.60, and 0.57 respectively. These samples showed that joint reinforcement actually reduces the coefficient of friction and the initial bond strength at the block mortar interface. Three samples types which were reinforced with 15 M steel failed by compression of the masonry block not in shear at the mortar joint.
