Height growth comparisons of various stock types two years after out-planting in central Newfoundland
(University of New Brunswick, 1984) Frampton, Bertram
The planting stock comparison trial established in central Newfoundland by Abitibi-Price Inc. in the spring of 1981 is discussed. Included is a description of the planting site, the procedure used for plot layout, the planting techniques used, and the measurements taken on the seedlings. After two growing seasons, the average height of treatments were as follows: bare-root 2-2 - 33.0 cm, bare-root 2-1 - 32.3 cm, Spencer-Lemaire - 14.3 cm, multipot - 15.4 cm, paperpot - 16.0 cm. Bare-root 2-2, bare-root 2-1 and paperpot had growth increments of 8.0 cm, 8.7 cm, and 8.7 cm., respectively, which was significantly better (at the 5% level of probability) than Spencer-Lemaire or multipot. However, in terms of height growth increment, paperpot performance was significantly better in the second year than the other treatments.
