Item Alternative plans for sewage collection and treatment for New Maryland(University of New Brunswick, 1989) Grant, Shannon; Lin, K.; C., KinThis report examines the present sewerage systems of New Maryland with a view to developing a master plan for a community sewerage system. Six different alternative plans involving a community sewer and treatment system were developed and examined. Two of these schemes involved placing a community sewerage treatment facility in New Maryland. The other four schemes involved conveying the wastewater from New Maryland to the city of Fredericton system. The former alternatives involve a high level of treatment due to the small recieving streams, and the latter alternatives involve expanding and or upgrading the city of Fredericton system to accomodate the additional flows. In order to evaluate the different alternatives, each scheme was first preliminarily designed and then cost estimated. The most favourable alternative was placing a treatment facility in New Maryland to discharge to the North Branch of the Rusagonis Stream. This facility would consist of the extended aeration oxidation ditch process with chlorination and advanced treatment in the form of alum addition. The approximate cost was estimated at $ 6.3 million.
