Geotechnical centrifuge design : mechanical components
(University of New Brunswick, 1990) Landry, Normand D.; Valsangkar, Arun; J., Valsangkar
The mechanical design consists of the upper and lower bearings on the main vertical shaft, the initial and steady state power requirements, and the drive system selection for the U.N.B. geotechnical centrifuge. The upper and lower bearings were designed to meet the requirements from the SKF manufacturers catalogue. The initial and steady state power requirements for the U.N.B centrifuge were determined after a review of other centrifuges in the world. Once the power requirements were determined, a detailed drive system was supplied and designed by Furlong Motor Sales Ltd. and GEC Ltd. The geotechnical centrifuge is utilized for the study of soil - structure interaction and pollution migration problems. A sum of $100,000 was donated to the University of New Brunswick by Mr. Pat Gillin to construct a geotechnical centrifuge.
