Item A review of chipper headrigs and their effectiveness in sawing small logs(University of New Brunswick, 1975) McDonald, Michael H.Sawmilling has undergone many changes and modifications. In the early days virgin forests, close to centres of population, contained enormous quantities of large-size, high grade saw material. Today a high proportion of the annual cut is from sawlogs of small diameter. Throughout the industry there is apparent a desire for the most effective utilization of our forest resources. In the sawmilling i industry there is a marked improvement in the machinery and equipment available. One innovation has been the introduction of chipper headrigs designed to produce lumber and pulp chips from small logs. This report deals with the concept of chipper headrigs and the effectiveness of this type of headrig in sawing small logs.
