Item Bioremediation techniques for hydrocarbon contaminated sites(University of New Brunswick, 1996) Pelletier, Monique; Valsangkar, A.; J., ValsangkarAn extensive amount of research has been done in the field of bioremediation in the past 4 to 5 years. This research has never been synthesized so as to be easily accessible to engineers or bioremediation techniques used commercially are landfarming and biopiles earth scientists. The time taken by engineers in researching for preliminary design information could be reduced significantly if this information was more easily accessible to them. The main contaminants found in New Brunswick soil are hydrocarbons and the main bioremediation techniques used commercially are landfarming and biopiles. Control factors for each technique were determined as was their effects or the bioremediation rate. This information along with costs and soil types were incorporated into a computer decision chart where relative times and costs for each method could be determined.
