Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the freeze-thaw durability of concrete masonry units used in the construction of segmented retaining wall systems. Specimens from eight different companies were exposed to up to 500 freeze-thaw cycles according to ASTM Standard CI262-94.
This report presents the results of these tests along with the factors that led to the premature deterioration of the units. Suggestions are given as to how to increase the concrete masonry unit's freeze-thaw performance.
