In this study, various aspects of forest valuation are considered in the context of plantation appraisals. General concepts and principles are first presented, followed by a discussion of specific issues of importance in such exercises. Finally, a brief survey is made of a few of the approaches and methods applied by various investigators. It was concluded that, of the traditional proposals, the expectation value approach is the one best suited to estimating the market values of plantations under the stated assumptions and conditions. However, there exists a need for the development of valuation techniques and methods which are more appropriate to the modern forestry scene.
