Abstract

This report attempts to analyze the relationship between pre-harvest standing timber biomass and ground detritus, and post-harvest slash volumes on sites harvested by the tree-length or full-tree system. Data was extracted from measurements collected by the Great Lakes Forest Research Centre in the E.B. Eddy Forest Products operating area. Methodology conflicts were considered but not completely resolved because the data analysis produced inconclusive comparisons. A significant relationship was exhibited for logging residues on sites harvested full-tree to roadside while the tree-length sites failed to provide discernible trends. Sources of error are discussed and suggestions are made to improve assessment techniques so that significant relationships can be derived for future silviculture planning.
