Abstract
This project focuses on documenting the historic and current composition of the Canterbury Forest. A long-term (25-year) forest management plan was developed by combining historical aerial photographs, LiDAR point cloud data, and field data. Non-consumptive and stewardship-focused objectives such as carbon sequestration, and maple syrup production are explored. The Canterbury Forest was donated to the UNB Office of Forest Lands in 2020 and represents a unique set of conditions within the set of forest land properties. Containing a stand of tolerant hardwood and many of the features associated with old homesteads in this region, the Canterbury Forest is well situated to be representative of family woodlot management with a non-consumptive focus. Many features of the site make it valuable for education and research.
