Abstract

The study developed a structured and regionally aligned Active Transportation (AT) data collection plan for the Southeast Region of New Brunswick. A comprehensive background review and regional survey of AT-related information was conducted for each community within the region, including existing and historic data collection efforts and future priorities. Technical literature, including national guides and state-wide AT data collection programs, was also reviewed to identify best practices. Trails of regional value were defined and identified in consultation with SERSC and classified into Traffic Pattern Groups (TPGs) based on facility type and land-use characteristics. The plan proposes coordinated short-term and long-term count locations, evaluates suitable counting technologies, estimates minimum costs, and outlines a phased implementation and pilot testing. The resulting framework provides SERSC with a practical AT data collection plan which also serves as a guide for all the communities to support data driven, long-term regional planning.
