Abstract

Municipal solid waste is a multi-phase, biodegrading, anisotropic material. The wide variability of refuse makes it difficult to estimate geotechnical properties like unit weight. This report looked at the properties of each individual constituent of the refuse and used the combined data to estimate unit weights. Varieties of water contents and void ratios were used to model these estimates. Unit weights up to 14kN/m3 were measured during testing.
