Abstract
The t r a n s p o r t of b u l k m a t e r i a l s u s i n g c o n v e n t i o n al
methods (such as r a i l and t r u c k i n g ) has become more
expensive over the y e a r s . As a r e s u l t more a p p l i c a t i o n s a re
bein g found f o r t h e h y d r a u l i c t r a n s p o r t of m i x t u r e s . The
reasons f o r t h i s are l a r g e l y economic.
T h i s r e p o r t w i l l give a background t o h y d r a u l ic
t r a n s p o r t and why i t i s becoming more w i d e l y used today. I t
w i l l review some of the problems t h a t engineers face when
d e s i g n i n g such a system and p r e s e n t a s m a l l sample case
p r o v i d e d by the Denison Potacan Potash Company.
The purpose of t h i s r e p o r t i s t o emphasize the
d i f f i c u l t y an engineer faces i n d e s i g n i n g a h y d r a u l ic
t r a n s p o r t system i n t h e hope t h a t more research i n t o the
f l o w of m i x t u r e s w i l l occur.
