Abstract
Over one-hundred and seventy-five test coupons, from lightweight and normal
weight concrete masonry units, were tested according to ASTM CI262-94 "Standard Test
Method for Evaluating the Freeze-Thaw Durability of Manufactured Concrete Masonry
Units and Related Concrete Units."
The results of these tests were analyzed to determine if any correlation existed
between percent deterioration and the amount of binder, density, absorption and the
strength. The objective was to see what effects mix proportions, compressive strength,
and manufacturing procedures have on the durability. Suggestions are made to increase
the effectiveness of the test method. Finally guidelines are given to identify appropriate
pass-fail criteria for the test.
