Profiling the demand for jobs in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in New Brunswick

Abstract

Demand for skilled workers in New Brunswick’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector is shaped by broader labour market conditions and the evolving nature of digital work. As technological change accelerates, understanding employer demand becomes increasingly important for assessing how the province can support a stable and responsive ICT workforce. This study contributes to that evidence base by examining job postings data from the Vicinity Jobs database to describe patterns in labour demand for ICT related occupations within the broader Natural and Applied Sciences and Related Occupations (NAS) category between 2019 and 2023.Using descriptive analysis, the report documents changes in the volume of job postings, advertised wages, and educational requirements across regions and occupational groups.

Findings show that while overall job postings in New Brunswick increased over the period, NAS postings declined, with notable variation across the province’s cities. Employers also listed educational requirements more frequently in 2023, with a growing share seeking workers with undergraduate or graduate degrees. Wage patterns for postings requiring a college diploma suggest rising compensation in some NAS roles.
