The Humite group minerals norbergite, chondrodite, humite and clinohumite, have been identified in crystalline marble and skarn type rocks in the Grenville gneisses of South Eastern Quebec, with the aid of X-ray diffraction data and Infra-red spectra. The geology of areas where these minerals occur is presented and the associated mineral assemblages described. An attempt has been made to correlate OH− content with relative transmittance of Infra-red energy, and to account for the paragenesis of the members of the series.
