Solo-practice family physicians’ perspectives of team-based primary care in New Brunswick

Abstract

Team-based primary care is a topic of interest for health care organizations in Canada as a model to improve primary care delivery and provide benefits for patients, health care providers, and the health system. New Brunswick (NB) has been slow to adopt team-based primary care compared to other Canadian provinces, and there is a dearth of research regarding the perspectives of family physicians who continue to operate in solo practices. This study explores NB solo-practice family physicians’ views regarding team-based practice models and their current solo-practice model.

This manuscript is an article-based thesis. The first chapter is an introduction discussing background information on team-based care and providing context for the current study guided by relevant academic literature. The middle chapter is a qualitative descriptive article. The final chapter is a conclusion exploring research findings and providing a discussion of the study’s implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research.
