dc.description.abstract | The tension between Christianity and queerness has a long and violent history and the harm, both past and present, done to the queer community feels just about biblical. As a queer person who was raised in the Evangelical church, at the time fully buying into all the wonders and promises of the Bible, I have seen both brutal sides of the fence. The critical introduction of Pyrophyte delves into queer theology, exploring the questions “can we survive each other?” and “should we?” My poetry collection is a serial long poem that sets a gentle flame to the intersection of the two identities and, instead of offering solutions or suggestions, opts to sift through the ashes and reimagines new stories, instead, where we all have survived the fire. | |
