Abstract
Precast Prestressed hollow core concrete slabs are commonly used in the construction industry to reduce build times and weight over cast-in-place structures. These members are extruded on a casting bed, therefore shear reinforcement is not possible. In high shear areas the prestress level drops as it approaches the member end, commonly referred to as transfer length. In this region, it is common practice to fill the void in the slab to increase the shear capacity. This thesis discusses how void fill timing can affect the shear capacity of the section, and the effective transfer length. It also explores methods to accurately measure the transfer length within this region and possible methodologies to increase the shear capacity.
